The management committee, headed by the Salvadoran Committee El Piche, indicated that construction would begin once all funding was secured.
Some 400 students from the El Piche canton and 10 other nearby communities in the municipality of El Carmen, La Unión, will benefit from the construction of an educational complex. The project contemplates a two-story building with 18 classrooms, serving students from kindergarten through the final year of high school, with an investment of $1.8 million.
The initiative has been driven by the Salvadoran Committee El Piche with the support of other institutions such as the Social Investment Fund for Local Development (FISDL), contributing $500,000; the mayor's office of El Carmen, granting $200,000; and a private company giving $111,000.
According to the committee's president, Enot Rubio, $1 million was still to be raised, but he said efforts were under way with the embassies of Germany, Spain and Qatar to secure the remaining financing.
"I won't get to enjoy this complex, but there is a very large generation of children and young people here who will make the most of this project," said Oneida Parada, a senior high school student.
At the time, students attending the Cacique Educational Complex in the El Piche canton were receiving classes in classrooms with poor infrastructure.
Press article from June 2016. The El Piche Educational Complex was officially inaugurated in October 2024, with 18 classrooms serving 500 students from 16 communities.
